Eskom implementing Stage 2 load shedding until 22:00hrs on Monday

Eskom says it is implementing Stage 2 rotational loadshedding from 09:00 on Monday until 22:00 – for the second day after reintroducing load shedding for the first time since December over the weekend.

“Although a number of generating units, have returned to service as per the nine-point plan, regrettably additional units continue to trip,” Eskom said.

“This results in a shortage of generating capacity.”

The power utility warned consumers to treat all electrical points as live during loadshedding.

It said that Stage 2 calls for 2000MW to be rotationally loadshed nationally at a given period. Loadshedding is conducted rotationally as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.

“We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.”
